One of if not the most anticipated film of the summer is almost upon us... Christopher Nolan follows up his Best Picture winner Oppenheimer with this audaciously epic adaptation of Homer's THE ODYSSEY. Opening at The Lexi from Friday 17th July, this looks to be the cinematic event of the year and one which demands the big screen experience. With a stacked cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway, you'll want to secure your seats sooner rather than latter. From the epic to the intimate, on Friday we will once again pay a visit to our old friends Woody, Buzz and Jessie in TOY STORY 5. One of the most beloved animated franchises of all time, you'll need your tissues for yet another emotionally devastating adventure for adults and kids alike!
A little less family friendly is THE INVITE, a comedy about a failing marriage that may or may not be reignited by a dinner party visit from the extravagant neighbours. Starring Olivia Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton, this outlandish romp will be on our screens from Friday 10th July. Next week we welcome Bill Nighy's heartbreaking Irish drama 500 MILES. Bill is on excellent form in this story of two brothers who run away from their home in England to reach their estranged grandfather on Ireland's west coast. We'll also be continuing our female filmmaker strand through July-September and whilst we aren't on sale yet, we can exclusively reveal to you that our next spotlight will (hopefully) be on Chilean documentarian Maite Alberdi! She's an acclaimed two time Oscar nominee and though her films have never screened at The Lexi, we think our audience will adore them, stay tuned...
As previously announced, our LEXI SELECTS strand continues this month starting on Thursday with Cine Brazil presenting the brilliant Brazilian drama MANAS. The following week we have the distressing but vital Palestinian documentary PUT YOUR SOUL ON YOUR HAND AND WALK. From Friday 17th July we welcome my favourite film of 2026 so far, the affecting and personal BLUE HERON. Dystopian Japanese drama HAPPYEND and Italian drama THERE'S STILL TOMORROW complete an incredible month for the best films we didn't get to show. You won't regret seeing any/all of these magnificent movies!
Though not technically a Selects title, we're taking an opportunity to bring back one of the best films of 2026 in July with ROSE OF NEVADA returning to our screens next week. Mark Jenkin's Cornish tale about fishermen caught in a time loop features extraordinary performances from Callum Turner and George MacKay, the latter treated us to a Q&A when the film released a few months ago. Elsewhere we've got FAMILIAR TOUCH from Friday 10th July, a tender and compassionate dementia drama. In an ideal world the film's astonishing lead actress Kathleen Chalfant would have won every award for her portrayal of Ruth Goldman. There's also the off-beat and darkly comic Danish film THE LAST VIKING starring Mads Mikkelsen as Manfred, who believes he is in fact John Lennon...
As always we've a wealth of talent making their way through our doors this month. Director Andy Mundy-Castle will be here on Sunday 12th July for a Q&A for SHOOT THE PEOPLE. A documentary capturing photographer and activist Misan Harriman’s journey to document and drive social change. We're very excited to try something a little out of the ordinary on Thursday 9th July with HOME FRONT/FRONT LINE. Evocative and haunting images by Scottish artist/filmmaker Ken Smyth are accompanied by live performances from the award-winning Kensal Rise poet Chrys Salt MBE, and internationally acclaimed saxophonist Richard Ingham in this timely multi-media performance + Q&A. We're again collaborating with Brent Council for Disabled People's Empowerment Month with a screening of the BAFTA winning drama I SWEAR. Tickets are just £3 and come with a free popcorn so if you've still not seen this delight don't miss out on Tuesday 14th July. Tickets are also just £3 for climate documentary THE PEOPLE'S EMERGENCY BRIEFING on Wednesday 8th July. Hosted by the Brent Green Party, the screening will be followed by a live panel discussion.
As announced last month, our next National Theatre screening is LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES. Playing from Wednesday 1st July, it features wonderful performances from the always brilliant Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread), Aidan Turner (Rivals) and Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown). But before then, we're bringing back their production of ALL MY SONS. An incredibly (and deservedly) acclaimed adaptation of Arthur Miller's play featuring career best work from Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, this is your last chance to see it in a cinema.
