The screening on Monday 06 July at 15:00 is a Talking Pictures screening, with an informal discussion with a member of the Lexi team following the film.
On the Amazon rainforest island of Marajó, 13-year-old Tielle lives in an isolated riverside community with her family. She idolizes her older sister, who escaped the area with “a good man” (according to her mother) on one of the commercial barges that run through the river. But as she matures and learns the true price her sister paid to leave, she fears for the safety of her younger sister and resolves to challenge the normalized abuse of women and girls in her community. Filmmaker Brennand, who spent 10 years researching cases of sexual abuse and exploitation against women and children in the Amazon rainforest, based this feature debut on true stories to create a sensitive and stirring portrait of cycle-breaking resilience. - Film Forum

For 2026, we present our year-long season 'Spotlight' celebrating four international female filmmakers through four dedicated programmes, each featuring three films.
We opened the season with the acclaimed Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir, following the incredible success of her recent feature Palestine 36.
Our next season, running from April to June, will be on the Italian visionary director Lina Wertmüller, who was the first female director to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for her film Seven Beauties (1975).
Details of the remaining filmmakers will be announced throughout the year.
All Sunday screenings will include an introduction, with tickets priced at £10.
