“Uncut Gems for teachers”, as described by one Letterboxd reviewer: The Staffroom makes an up-close approach to school labour all too literal. Young school counsellor, Anamarija, begins working at an elementary school in Zagreb, but quickly realises she has her work cut out for her when faced with opposition by colleagues. A bold debut feature from Croatian filmmaker Sonja Tarokić, this is a breathless drama exploring duty of care and the clash between idealism and stubbornness, maintaining an uneasy proximity with the characters throughout.
