APRIL AT THE LEXI CINEMA

APRIL AT THE LEXI CINEMA

Wednesday 1 Apr 2026

Johnathan Kirk

This may be the April members newsletter but I'd be remiss if I didn't flag THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2, opening at The Lexi on Friday 1st May. Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci all return in this eagerly anticipated follow-up to this 2006 classic. Destined to be one of the biggest films of the year, will it overtake PROJECT HAIL MARY (playing at The Lexi now) as the biggest opening weekend of 2026...

Our biggest April offering is likely to be the genre-defying THE DRAMA starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. This darkly comic romantic drama is hard to categorise but do save the date of April 10th for the must see cinematic wedding of the year. We're very excited to welcome ROSE OF NEVADA here from Friday 24th April, the latest film from Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin (BAIT). We're particularly anticipating this one as we'll be joined by actor George MacKay for a post-film Q&A following the 17:30 screening on Sunday 26th April.

George isn't the only speaker visiting the Lexi this month, we're delighted to welcome CINE BRAZIL back to introduce a preview of THE BLUE TRAIL on Wednesday 8th April ahead of the film's release here on Friday 17th. A politically charged rallying cry about age discrimination in Brazil, this acclaimed drama is timely and profoundly human. We're also launching part two of our female filmmaker strand SPOTLIGHT with the Italian maestra LINA WERTMÜLLER. Lina was the first woman nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards and we'll be screening three of her films between April and June, starting with THE SEDUCTION OF MIMI on Sunday 19th April plus introduction from Dr Julia Wagner.

Scottish cinema is like London buses at The Lexi this month with two fantastic films coming along at once! James McAvoy's directorial debut CALIFORNIA SCHEMIN is the hilarious true story of two young Dundee lads who successfully pretend to be American rappers to secure a record contract, opening here Friday 17th April. The following week we have GLENROTHAN with Alan Cumming starring alongside Brian Cox, also making his directorial debut. This "love letter to Scotland" follows two warring brothers battling for control of a Scottish Highlands whisky distillery.

From intimate and local to global sensations, we can't wait to have you singing and dancing in the aisles for EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT opening here on Good Friday. Baz Luhrmann brings together never-before-seen footage and electric concert recordings from Elvis' Las Vegas residency during the later stage of his career. We've also just added some showings of THE WIZARD OF THE KREMLIN opening Friday 17th April. Starring Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander and a mesmerising Jude Law as Vladimir Putin, this intricate political thriller reveals how the Russian leader rose to power.

Returning to the big screen on Good Friday for its 25th Anniversary is the beloved French classic AMÉLIE. Also back on our screens over the Easter break are PALESTINE 36 and MY FATHER'S SHADOW. The former returning as a complimentary bookend to our Annemarie Jacir season and the latter following a sold out Seniors' Film Club screening on Monday.

We've four foreign language favourites worth flagging for April all following acclaimed festival runs. Starting on Friday with Cannes prize-winner SOUND OF FALLING, this German drama is one of the best reviewed films of the year, exploring four different generations of German women. The following week we welcome Paolo Sorrentino's (THE GREAT BEAUTY) latest Italian masterpiece LA GRAZIA after a deserved Best Actor win in Venice. That same week we have Lexi favourite François Ozon's Albert Camus adaptation THE STRANGER, a box office sensation in France. Similarly massive in France was COLOURS OF TIME opening here on Friday 24th April. It follows four cousins connecting with their ancestry and making fascinating and delightful discoveries about one woman in particular.

We have our first National Theatre Live release of the year in April with ALL MY SONS opening on Thursday 16th April. Bryan Cranston (BREAKING BAD) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (HARD TRUTHS) star in this triumphant, five-star production of Arthur Miller’s classic wartime play. We're also excited to welcome back Liz Smith (THE LINE WE CROSSED) for a Q&A with Noelle Cook for their film THE CONSPIRACISTS. This documentary confronts some of the individuals of the January 6th Capitol attack and explores how they engage or disengage with truth, screening on Thursday 23rd April. Last but not least we welcome LITTLE VENICE FILM FESTIVAL to The Lexi for the first time on Monday 27th April with two films. Join us for INVINCIBLE and THE RECKONING OF ERIN MORRIGAN plus in-depth Q&A with actress Olwen Fouéré, director Gabrielle Russell, and producer Laura Torenbeek.

Coming on a Tuesday? Remember you can bring a friend for free! And not forgetting £6 tickets all day for members on Mondays.
