JANUARY AT THE LEXI CINEMA

JANUARY AT THE LEXI CINEMA

Monday 5 Jan 2026

Johnathan Kirk

2026 is here and if your New Year's Resolution is to go to the cinema more enough you'll be spoilt for choice at The Lexi this January. We're expecting Chloe Zhao's (Nomadland) adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's beloved novel HAMNET to take our screens by storm when it opens on 16th January! There won't be a dry eye in the house for Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley's heart-breaking portrayals of William and Agnes Shakespeare in this profoundly cinematic tale of art and grief.

For a more musical adventure why not experience 'Lightning & Thunder' in SONG SUNG BLUE. Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson star as two down-on-their-luck musicians who form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams. Fans of 2024's Thelma won't want to miss June Squibb's exceptional performance in ELEANOR THE GREAT. Scarlett Johansson's delicate directorial debut is playing at The Lexi now. We'll also be celebrating one of Britain's most cherished comedy figures with the wonderful documentary BECOMING VICTORIA WOOD opening here on Friday 23rd January.

Two box office sensations land at The Lexi in January, starting with Timothee Chalamet's adrenaline-riddled ping pong drama MARTY SUPREME on our screens now. Following one of the most deranged press tours we've ever seen, Timothee looks to be the frontrunner for Best Actor as he hopes to go one step further following his nomination last year for A Complete Unknown. Better late than never, we'll also be giving you the chance to take another trip to Pandora in James Cameron's latest epic: AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH, opening on Friday 23rd January. The last two Avatar films were both nominated for Best Picture but will he go three for three with this latest acclaimed instalment?

Last month I gave my stamp of approval to Cannes Palme d'Or winner IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT and we'll be bringing this one back to our screens in the New Year for anyone who missed the chance to catch Jafar Panahi's acclaimed Iranian thriller. Speaking of festival favourites we'll be bringing the powerful and tense docudrama THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB back to The Lexi following a sold out preview in November. I also want to highlight Ben Whishaw's elegant and intimate turn in PETER HUJAR'S DAY as the eponymous New York photographer.

Later on in the month we're excited to once again welcome the LONDON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL with two programmes: CAN YOU IMAGINE A WORLD? and LONDON LIVES. Our first National Theatre offering of 2026 is HAMLET, playing at Lexi on Thursday 22nd January as an ideal companion piece to the aforementioned HAMNET.

Coming on a Tuesday? Remember you can bring a friend for free! And not forgetting £6 tickets all day for members on Mondays.
