OCTOBER AT THE LEXI CINEMA

OCTOBER AT THE LEXI CINEMA

Wednesday 1 Oct 2025

Johnathan Kirk

Autumn leaves are falling and you know what that means... all the best awards movies are about to be right on your doorstep!

If the success of Bob Dylan biopic A COMPLETE UNKNOWN was anything to go by, we're expecting lots of interest in the upcoming Bruce Springsteen portrayal: SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE. The film stars Stephen Graham (ADOLESCENCE), Jeremy Strong (SUCCESSION) and Jeremy Allen White (THE BEAR) as the boss himself, don't be surprised to see them vying for Oscar gold in the new year. Far from the only contender on the horizon, next week sees two heavyweights battle it out at The Lexi. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson throws his hat into the Best Actor ring with his powerhouse performance in UFC biopic THE SMASHING MACHINE and Kathryn Bigelow (the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director) returns with acclaimed nuclear thriller A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE. Keep an eye too on Julia Roberts doing some of her best work in Luca Guadagnino's gripping MeToo drama AFTER THE HUNT joining us from 17th October.

Hundreds of you joined us this weekend for Best Picture frontrunner ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Paul Thomas Anderson's exhilarating satirical epic is being touted as one of his very best, with a pitch perfect central comedic performance by Leonardo DiCaprio.

It wouldn't be October without embracing spooky season here at The Lexi and we've got a couple of Halloween offerings to see out the month. Guillermo Del Toro (THE SHAPE OF WATER) brings the titular monster to life in his frightfully fantastic FRANKENSTEIN adaptation, opening on the 31st. We're also delighted to present an Animation Reframed screening of Tim Burton's iconic animated terror CORPSE BRIDE + INTRODUCTION as alternative Halloween night programming, as well as some Family Fun showings for Half Term to be added soon. We'll also have THE BAD GUYS 2 and DORA: MAGIC MERMAID ADVENTURES for some less scary offerings for the little ones.

One of my favourites of the month is I SWEAR, the powerful true-life story of Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner John Davidson. A star-making turn from Robert Aramayo, this humorous heart-warmer features delightful supporting work from Maxine Peake and Peter Mullan. The sequel to the 1984 cult comedy classic reunites the best band that never was in SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES. Opening at The Lexi opposite SPRINGSTEEN, we're encouraging everyone to have their own Rock 'n' Roll double bill! Fans of documentarian Asif Kapadia (SENNA, AMY, DIEGO MARADONA) won't want to miss this one night only opportunity to see his latest footballer feature: KENNY DALGLISH. Featuring exclusive cinema-only content, we're giving members a dedicated presale until Wednesday at 11am.

We're always proud to present the best of documentary cinema here at The Lexi and we've got some great non-fiction films for your consideration. Our Black History Studies strand returns with the tale of Trinidad & Tobago's beloved steelpan pioneers in PANAZZ: THE STORY. They also present ERNEST COLE: LOST AND FOUND, a chronicle of the South African photographer who first exposed the horrors of apartheid to a world audience. Playing on consecutive Sundays, the latter will have some additional midweek showings too. We've also got a late addition with a special London Film Festival preview of LOVE+WAR. A blistering profile of Pulitzer Prize-winning conflict photographer Lynsey Addario from the filmmakers behind FREE SOLO.

The National Theatre Live production of INTER ALIA starring Rosamund Pike was one of our biggest hits of September and will be back again for select shows in October. The next NT Live will be MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION, pairing five-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton with her real-life daughter Bessie Carter in Bernard Shaw’s incendiary moral classic.
