Looking ahead to September we can't any look further than Andrew Scott's incredible performance as the weather forecaster for the D-Day landings. Fans of British war dramas won't want to miss PRESSURE when it opens at The Lexi from Wednesday 9th September. Before that we have Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic drama THE DOG STARS from Friday, starring Jacob Elordi, Guy Pearce and a never better Josh Brolin! Though not on sale yet, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the upcoming SENSE AND SENSIBILITY adaptation. I've seen it and its fantastic so put Friday 25th September in your diary and keep an eye out for a members presale once tickets do launch...
It's another musical month here at the Lexi and we're expecting very busy shows for our limited time only screenings of OASIS: DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER starting from Wednesday 16th September. If you missed them at Wembley or simply wanted to experience the reunion again, you'll want to see this one in a cinema. Staying on the Brit-Pop theme, we've a one night only chance to see PULP: WHAT DO YOU DO FOR AN ENCORE on Sunday 20th September. Then there's our Fundraiser Director Q&A for BOWIE: THE FINAL ACT on Monday 28th September. We also have the acclaimed jazz musician biopic EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS opening here from Friday 11th September, featuring a career best performance from Bill Pullman.
If I'm allowed a moment of self indulgence I'd like to shout out three personal favourites of the month. In a just world Juliette Binoche, Tom Courtenay and Anna Calder-Marshall will see awards galore for their heartbreaking performances in brutal and complicated dementia drama QUEEN AT SEA, one of the best films of 2026. Another contender for that crown is slasher satire TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA featuring Gillian Anderson on top form as a scream queen of yesteryear. And then to mark the sad passing of Dolly Parton we are doing a special screening of her 1980 comedy classic 9 TO 5 on Saturday 5th September with tickets just £10.
Tickets are going fast for Charles de Gaulle biopic DE GAULLE: RESISTANCE playing from Friday. Featuring a charming performance from Simon Russell Beale as Winston Churchill. With the extended runtime of that epic we've paired it with the much shorter life-affirming documentary SUPER NATURE, a gorgeous love letter to nature. There's also COYOTE VS ACME, the famously shelved animated comedy which has finally been released in cinemas and has been met with stellar reviews!
Our Brazilian Summer Nights season concludes in September with Kleber Mendonça Filho's (THE SECRET AGENT) Cannes winning 2019 drama BACURAU and the UK premiere of THE BEST MOTHER OF THE WORLD from the director of THE SECOND MOTHER. We also conclude phase three of our Spotlight season with Academy Award nominated Chilean documentary THE ETERNAL MEMORY. All these films will feature introductions and are just £10.
This month's Lexi Seniors' Film Club screening will be DISCLOSURE DAY on Monday 28th September. Tickets are just £2 and there's free tea and biscuits as well as a post-film discussion. This month we're excited to welcome actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes for a post-film Q&A too. We're very excited to be collaborating with Japanese Film Club on two screenings of KAMIKAZE GIRLS on Saturday 19th September. And last but not least National Theatre Live returns on Wednesday 23rd September with Sandra Oh's THE MISANTHROPE.
