This is the story of Rose-Lynn (Jessie Buckley), a complicated, hugely talented singer who's determined to become a country music star, whatever the cost.  The 'complicated' bit is that she's handicapped by a recent spell in prison, two young kids who she's let down badly, a feckless boyfriend and a chippy, narcissistic attitude towards most of the world. Just when you think she's going to make it happen, through sheer outrageous talent and determination - just when you think you're watching a spin on A Star is Born but with northern accents - the film takes you somewhere unexpected, somewhere a lot more interesting. By then Rose-Lynn/Jessie Buckley has won you over, and the film goes on to win your heart!  (And if we haven't convinced you yet, Julie Walter does her best 'salt of the earth' turn, and Sophie Okonedo makes for an unlikely fairy godmother.)

"Finding balance between what you've done and what you feel destined to do resonates beyond country music. When the film sings, it soars - Jessie Buckley was born to be a star."  Sight and Sound

"Entirely delightful, fresh as a Scottish summer evening."  Hollywood Reporter
