When a gang of career crims ends up as cinders in a heist gone wrong, their shocked and grieving widows are pursued for the stolen money. This motley crew of women isn't your obvious bunch of molls, but the man with the gun - an extremely menacing Daniel Kaluuya - demonstrates he's deadly serious.  School teacher Veronica (Oscar-winning Viola Davis) is the gal-with-a-plan and only two weeks in which to outwit some of the most hardened criminals around:  the politicians who are duking it out for control of the city.

Widows is what happens when you take a serious director - Oscar winning Steve McQueen, known for 10 Years a Slave, Shame and Hunger - and let him loose to have some serious fun.  Point him in the direction of a previous Lynda La Plant mini-series and enlist A-list writer Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) for the script, and you've got thriller gold!  The originally London-based story gets a scene change to Chicago, the land of hereditary political power which continues to reel under a reputation for violence and racial division.  It's a perfect canvas for an explosive investigation of class, race, gender roles and political corruption.  And, more to the point, it's a recipe for 130 minutes of pure pleasure!

Wed 21st Nov at 13:30 is our monthly Screen Gems screening, offering good company and guided discussion for only £5.  We will be screening the film as a Hard of Hearing show, with fully audo-described subtitles. This is a boon for those who need it but it may be distracting for those who don't.

Sun 18 Nov at 16:30 is our Greene Sunday screening.  That's great film for the great price of only £2.50, courtesy of local estate agents Greene & Co.  Tickets - while they last - are available through normal Lexi channels, and there are additional tickets available direct from the local Greene & Co branches at Kensal Rise and Willesden Green.
