"This is a real charmer of a film: a wry and gently comic Mumbai-set drama with a level of quiet observation that rekindles memories of Bill Forsyth in his prime." ★★★★ Independent  "A Rolls Royce romantic comedy set in Mumbai that rides on a delectable, bittersweet central turn by Irrfan Khan." ★★★★ Little White Lies

A mistake in Mumbai’s famously efficient lunchbox delivery system connects a young housewife to a lonely stranger. Ila (Nimrat Kaur) had gone to special trouble with the food, in an effort to gain the attention of her indifferent husband.  Instead it is the tastebuds - and curiousity - of Saajan (Irrfan Khan), a prickly office worker, that are engaged by her cooking. Through an exchange of notes in the lunchbox, they share details of their isolation. Gradually this fantasy friendship threatens to overwhelm their respective realities.

We’d like to pay tribute to the brilliant Irrfan Khan, who just passed away, with this moving tale of chance and romance in Mumbai. A global sensation (and Lexi favourite), The Lunchbox is a charming portrait of loneliness and disenchantment in the sprawling city, where two souls cross paths in a most uncommon manner.
