"This film is a hoot.  It's a hit.  It's a smash."  ★★★★ The Times  "A hugely enjoyable, lovable comedy." ★★★★ Guardian

Kumail (Kumail Nanjiani) is a Pakistani comic who falls for an American graduate student named Emily (Zoe Kazan) at one of his stand-up shows. Their one night stand develops into something more, raising the problem of introducing his Anglo girlfriend to his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily contracts a mysterious illness and is left in a coma, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family's expectations, and his true feelings.

Based on the real life problematic courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V Gordon, the two wrote the screenplay and Kumail plays himself while Kazan does the honours for Emily.  The film became a sleeper hit, winning a number of awards as it defied easy romcom classification with its compassionate, nuanced and - above all - humourous take on human relations.
