Next up in our new late screenings at the Lexi – the Lexi's Midnight Runners - a monthly cult movie screening for the night dwellers, the film lovers, the insomniacs, the late night lounge lizards and the post-pub partiers of NW London. Tickets £7 (£5 to members). This is a bit of an experiment for us, so if you like the idea show your support by turning up!
A must-see for movie lovers and now in remastered and digitised form, this is regularly at the top of Best Films lists. Paul Schrader's script updates classic Western The Searchers to post Viet Nam New York, and Robert DeNiro's horribly scarred veteran has entered the mythology of the US; 'Travis Bickle' is now shorthand for a generation, a time and a place. And Bickle is that now-all-too-familiar American figure - the lone (psycho) gunman - and the movie's great twist in which he becomes a media hero was all too prescient. It's difficult see that Scorsese has ever surpassed this very early masterpiece (but we like that he keeps trying!).
