Twinning nicely with The Handmaiden which we're screening this week, this cult film from the same director, Park Chan-wook. It's a dark, violent, existential neo-noir; purely cinematic and well worthy of the Grand Jury Prize it won at Cannes in 2003!  We suggest a double-bill of The Handmaiden followed by our midnight screening of Oldboy.  

One day Oh Dae-su finds himself locked up in a prison cell, with no idea of what his crime was or whom his jailers may be, and only a small television as his only link to the outside world. When he learns through a news report that his wife has been killed he begins to dig an escape tunnel with chopsticks, but before he can finish - after 15 years behind bars - Oh Dae-su is released. He has five days to find out who is responsible for his captivity...
