NT Live: Twelfth Night

Tamsin Greig (one of our enduring favourites, and a Lexi local) is 'Malvolia' in this new twist on Shakespeare’s classic comedy.

Following a shipwreck Viola is washed ashore, but her twin brother Sebastian is lost. Determined to survive on her own she refashions herself as a boy and calls herself Cesario.  When she is taken into service by the Duke Orsino, a whirlwind of mistaken identity and unrequited love begins. But where music is the food of love, and nobody is quite what they seem, anything proves possible!  This joyous comic confection on the subjects of gender and identity includes several of Shakespeare's dearest Fools: the steward Malvolio - here reshashioned as the housekeeper, Malvolia - and the misadventurers Sir Toby Belch and Sir Andrew Aguecheek.

Simon Godwin (Man and Superman, The Beaux’ Stratagem) directs, with Tamsin Greig (Friday Night Dinner, Black Books, Episodes) as Malvolia alongside an ensemble cast that includes Daniel Rigby (Flowers, Jericho), Tamara Lawrence (Undercover), Doon Mackichan (Smack the Pony) and Daniel Ezra (The Missing, Undercover).
