NT Live: I'm Not Running

Veteran playwright David Hare returns to his favourite themes: politics, belief and personal responsibility.

Showing Times

Pauline Gibson (Sian Brooke, Dr Foster) has spent her life as a doctor, unintentionally becoming a national treasure as the inspiring leader of a local health campaign. During the same period one of her close friends from university, Jack Gould, has become an MP and is making his way to the top of the Corbyn-era Labour party. The play covers the twenty year span of their adult lives, contrasting their different choices of how to serve the public good.

A new play by David Hare is always a cause for celebration!  His other work includes PlentyPravda and Skylight, and this is his 18th play to open at the National Theatre. Hare was recently described by The Washington Post as ‘the premiere political dramatist writing in English’.

This is 'as live'; we are showing a recording of the live performance at the National Theatre.
