NT Live: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

"But as he demonstrated with his daringly unpoetic take on "A Streetcar Named Desire", Andrews understands the primal instincts that animate this great playwright’s work." ★★★★ Independent

Tennessee Williams’ searing, poetic story of a family’s fight for survival is a modern masterpiece. On a steamy night in Mississippi, a Southern family gather at their cotton plantation to celebrate patriarch Big Daddy’s birthday. The scorching heat is almost as oppressive as the lies they tell, and 'the powerful odour of mendacity' prevails. Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten their marriage. With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real – and which will win out?

Following his hit production of A Streetcar Named Desire, this ‘thrilling revival’ (New York Times) from Benedict Andrews starred Sienna Miller alongside Jack O’Connell, and Colm Meaney in the role of Big Daddy.  The play recently concluded a strictly limited, sold out season at London's Apollo Theatre and we're delighted to offer this chance to share it with the wide NT Live audience. It will be showing 'as live', meaning the production was filmed before it closed.
