Molly's Game

" Pure class. Chastain and Elba deserve Oscar noms, and Sorkin's second Best Adapted Screenplay award (after The Social Network) is a sure thing." Total Film

Showing Times

The true story of Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain), the 'poker princess', who established an exclusive poker game for the high stakes gamblers of Hollywood.  Her first job as a poker hostess taught her that she needed to become the ultimate unattainable luxury item to attract her own coterie of weathy players.  She proved extraordinarily well suited to this and Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob all joined her private table.  When armed FBI agents arrested her, looking to get to her clientele, only her defence laywer (Idris Elba) stood between her and the bristling establishment out to punish her for being a woman and being so successful.

This is the first foray at directing for screenwriting supremo Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, West Wing et al), and the words zip and pop off the screen with wit, intelligence and exhilarating screwball pace.  Chastain excels - "Jessica Chastain is, quite simply, phenomenal," says the Observer - and Elba has never been better.  Winner takes all here, and Sorkin has already been nominated for Best Screenplay Golden Globes.
