It's 1993, and Moretz's character, Cameron, has been caught at her high school hop in a clinch with a girl.  Lickety-split she is despatched to a Christian teen gay conversion retreat - "pray away the gay."  Cameron quickly gets in with the 'bad kids', although in this story there are no bad kids.  There aren't even - in that crucial parenting distinction - 'bad actions'; full of humour, the film refuses to make a villain out of anyone.  Although Cameron doesn't know, on arrival, what she wants, she finds camaraderie and solidarity at the camp, learning to navigate - and survive - in an intolerant world.

The film launched at Sundance this year where it won the Grand Jury Prize, and it comes from noteworthy director Desiree Akhavan (Appropriate Behaviour).  It's a really nicely made film, and  a tremendous drama - humane, tender and very moving - which feels rather important.  Enjoy.
