Verdi's classic launches new Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.  Starring Diana Damrau and Juan Diego Flórez, it is directed by Michael Mayer.  This new production features a dazzling eighteenth-century set that changes with the seasons.

Worldly courtesan Violetta (Diana Damrau) has grown tired of her dissolute life, so when pure-hearted Alfredo (Juan Diego Flórez) declares his love for her, she quits her old life to start anew. When she finds out that his family’s reputation is ruined by his association with her, she bows to the pressure of the Alfredo's over-bearing father and returns to her old life.  Alfredo, not knowing the real reason for her apparent betrayal, is heartbroken - and intent on revenge.
