On the eve of International Women’s Day we celebrate the ground-breaking, world-encompassing achievements of the first all female crew to sail in the Whitbread Round the World race.  It was the dream of Tracy Edwards, only 24 years old, to skipper an all women crew.  She was derided by her male competitors, the chauvinistic yachting world placed bets on her failure, and sponsors shunned her, fearing they would die at sea and generate bad publicity.  As in all good fairytales, though, there was a determined woman behind making the dream come true!  Tracy remortgaged her home, bought a second-hand boat, and assembled a thoroughly remarkable crew.  With their help she went on to shock the sporting world – and prove that women are every bit the equal of men.  (And maybe then some…?)

Tracy and her crew are reassembled for the satellite Q&A afterwards. It should be a cracker!

This documentary is F-Rated.  This means that it has a fully developed female character at the centre of the film and/or that it has a female director or screenwriter.
