"Instructive, insightful and inspiring, Maiden is a rousingly riveting record of a remarkable accomplishment that says as much about British bloody-mindedness as it does about feminist fortitude and underdog pluck." Empire

We've scheduled a prompt repeat of this doc about the ground-breaking, world-encompassing achievements of the first female crew to compete in the Whitbread Round the World race.  It was the dream of Tracy Edwards, only 24 years old, to skipper an all women crew.  She was derided by her male competitors, the chauvinistic yachting world placed bets on her failure, and sponsors shunned her, fearing they would die at sea and generate bad publicity.  As in all good fairy tales, though, there was a determined woman behind making the dream come true!  Tracy remortgaged her home, bought a second-hand boat, and assembled a thoroughly remarkable crew.  With their help she went on to shock the sporting world – and prove that women are every bit the equal of men.  (And maybe then some…?)

This documentary is F-Rated.  This means that it has a fully developed female character at the centre of the film and/or that it has a female director or screenwriter.
