"Wendy and Lucy is a film of small details and unassuming craftsmanship." Matt Bochenski, Little White Lies

Welcome to your neighbourhood film school, a new series of hosted screenings exploring film history and introducing current debates in cinema culture.  Fill in the gaps in your film knowledge and join the conversation.  London has one of the most exciting and diverse cinema scenes in the world, and we welcome the writers, critics, curators and cultural commentators of the capital to NW10.  Everyone welcome!

The modern master of slow-burn social drama, Certain Women director Kelly Reichardt turned her contemplative gaze on America's poverty problem with this heartbreaking 2008 feature.  Michelle Williams plays Wendy, a desperate young woman on her way to Alaska to find work, stranded in Oregon when her car breaks down.  When her beloved dog Lucy goes missing, Wendy sets out to find her.

Wendy and Lucy will be introduced by Little White Lies editor and former Timer Out film writer David Jenkins, who wrote of the film: "Every minutely judged frame oozes gently with detail and emotion... Michelle Williams’s beautifully restrained and humane performance wrings poignant truth from the realities of Wendy’s struggle for perseverance and dignity."

#LexiFilmSchool takes place on Monday evenings.  Tickets are £8 (£6 to Lexi members), with a reduced price of £20 when all 4 titles are booked at the same time. Each LFS film will be introduced by the speaker, and on the Friday before each screening we’ll email you additional information:  short film notes, links to further reading, and a few suggested 'if you like this, then...' titles.

You will also receive your code for a free 30 days' subscription to streaming platform, MUBI, providing access to cult, classic and independent films from around the world.
