In January 1972, Aretha Franklin - at the height of her power musically and as a symbol of racial equality - spent two days in the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church to record her next album, 'Amazing Grace', which would go on to be one of the biggest selling live gospel albums of all time. Surrounded by microphones and cameras overseen by veteran director Sydney Pollack, what was captured is one of the most mesmerising and compelling performances, by one of the world’s biggest musical icons and powerhouses; in her element, and on her own terms. The results are electrifying.  Due to technical difficulties in the recording at the time the footage was deemed unusable and languished in a film vault for decades.  It is only now, with advances in audio technology, that the original footage can be shown in its true glory.  Aretha - respect!

Our Sun 26 May screening at 18:00 will be a Greene Sunday screening.  That's great film, made available at the great price of £2.50 through the generous support of local estate agents Greene & Co.  Some tickets are available through normal Lexi channels but the two local Greene & Co offices - Kensal Rise and Willesden Green - have more to sell.  Pop in; don't miss out!

And for another good deal at Aretha tickets, attend BHS: The Amazing Nina Simone on Thu 28 May and attend Amazing Grace afterwards for only £4.  Tickets at this special price are only available via our booking line or in person.  Why not make a night of it?

Our Wed 29 May show at 13:30 is our Screen Gems screening, playing with Hard of Hearing captioned subtitles.  That means details like *plane flies overhead* or *dog barks* are included.
