Our brilliant volunteers make The Lexi possible…
Donate your time to support your local cinema…be part of something special!
We are your local ‘micro cinema’! We receive no public funding and are staffed by a small team of (paid) managers, and local volunteers. Although we are small, we aim to be a resource for the whole of our local community: we run parent and baby shows, a kids club with craft activities, matinees for older people, we host the Transition film club, and much more. We have Q + As with the people who make the films, and we also host discussion groups with the people who watch the films (you!). Our volunteers are absolutely vital to us, and are a big part of everything we do.
…we also give 100% of our profits to charity!
The Sustainability Institute is an amazing project in Stellenbosch, South Africa. So far, our donations have gone towards a crèche, built from local, reclaimed materials (with places for 45 children from the surrounding area), their school, for 475 local children, a community cinema, community vegetable garden for research into sustainable farming methods, and much more. Lynedoch is South Africa’s first eco village! South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world and it is education which will give the young people of Stellenbosch a better chance in life.
If you are looking for experience working with the public, in the service industry or in a cinema / local arts venue, then come and join us! If you have other skills you would like to share with us, such as design or DIY, please let us know.
Make new friends
If you’re new to the area or just looking to make new friends why not drop us a line about volunteering? Our volunteers come from all walks of life and backgrounds – from filmmakers to engineers to teachers, to retired people, stay-at-home parents, to PR specialists and HR managers – and they all help sweep up the popcorn at the end of the show! Our volunteers make the Lexi special.
