“The plot might be predictable, but this fluid film has free-ranging fun with the physicality of what it feels like to be a spider, especially when tied to the emotions of a teenager.” Jenny McCartney, The Daily Telegraph
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field). When Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man he is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, and Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
Garfield is on top form, bringing out both Parker’s lonely vulnerability and Spidey’s freewheeling, wisecracking style. With a top-notch supporting cast and some exhilarating action completing the mix, this is a high-octane, first-rate film relaunch for the much-loved comic-book hero.
