FLICKER CLUB CHRISTMAS SPECIAL !!! WOOHOO!!
SUNDAY 19 DEC (1730)
There are two films and two films only that utterly define Christmas and we’ve already screened one of them last year, that little bit of perfection called ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’.
So, now, without further ado, we are delighted to screen that seminal classic ‘Scrooge‘ with the indelible, unforgettable and irreplaceable central performance of Alistair Sim.
There have been many lovely adaptations of Charles Dicken’s timeless tale ‘A Christmas Carol’ with ‘Disney’s A Christmas Carol’ being the latest contribution. Many of you might of seen the wonderful one man show of Patrick Stewart or perhaps been lucky enough to have heard the radio version with a memorable portrayal by Leonard Rossiter. Who could forget Michael Caine in the role surrounded by those marvelous Muppets? Then there’s the lovely musical version with Albert Finney or the dour George C. Scott’s interpretation or lovable Michael Horden taking on the part for the BBC.
But we’ve chosen the 1951 version, beautifully directed by Brian Desmond Hurst with a supporting cast of some of the finest character actors ever captured on film. But it is Alistair Sim who makes the film sublime. If ever a role was perfectly cast, if ever an actor was born to play one role it is Sim as Scrooge.
So join us please and shed a tear for Tiny Tim and a whole flood of them for that eminently redeemable old Miser Scrooge.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without him.
Scrooge at The Lexi Cinema on Sunday December the 19th.
Doors open at 5.30pm for christmas carols, cheer and complimentary cocktail reception.
6.00pm reading by our surprise special guest and screening of the film.
And as its Christmas you will not leave empty handed. On top of our usual goody bag there will be a secret santa DVD sack. Bring a wrapped copy of a film you’d like to share and you will leave with a new one…
So Come All You Faithful and see you at the Lexi…..
